Spring Cut Back

This past week I started the spring cut
back, yep all the spring bloomers got
cut back to the ground to make way
for the summer blooms.  A couple
Clematis that got hit hard from the
heat also got cut back.  Besides once
the Irises were cut back it's was time
to treat them for the summer.  The only
ones you don't cut back are the
rebloomers.  Time to shape the azaleas
and wisterias.  Within the next week it
will be time to cut back the peonies if
you don't want them to go to seed.  If you
want seeds, then let them do their thing.

Got the wisterias out front trimmed back
and found the one is starting to bloom
again!   Strange weather do have an effect
on plants!!  I also noted lots of seedpods,
thank you Bees!!

With an empty yard bin it's time to cut
back the peonies, not saving seeds this
year.  Also with the up coming heat it's
best to cut them, which will allow them
to give back the to the roots.

Up coming July,  some of you know we
cut back the Clematis after the 4th of July
so that in the fall we have bloomers.   I know
that this weeks heat will do some of them
in so enjoy them now.

We have also brought out some of the
summer plants.

1972 Clark County's Photo

I came across this photo on Clark County's GIS
site when I went in to look at their information
after getting our 2021 Assessment.

This is the photo that the GIS has on record.

It is nice to see all our hard work is paying off!!
Got to love those Ranch style homes!!  They
must be in high demand as our assessment
keeps rising.  More then the two stories houses.

First Brugmansia Bloom Of The Season.

Our second B. Shorty's Variegated that is
pushing 9 foot decided to bloom right after
our heat wave and the weather has cooled
some.

One can never have to many of these!

Here is B. Maya in her glory!

Her fragrance isn't as sweet as B.
Shorty's and she has to be in the
shade out front.   Her leaves aren't
as thick, nor is she hairy like B. Shorty's
but well worth growing.   Will have to
move her to a larger pot when she is
done blooming.  I also noted that this
one is more a golden color than Shorty's
Also her tendrils lay outward but Short's
curl upward.   Here is how they are on
the driveway, B. Maya really needs more
shade.

Well yesterday was a good day to bump
up the pots and start cleaning them up
to appear like trees.

Here is the first group that got done.  The one in the
blue bucket is Cassie Curl and she supposed to be a
shorter one.....not here!!  She is also in bud in this heat.

An Apology

An apology to the couple that came for a
visit and I was on my way out for an

understanding and enjoyed what they
could see.

There Are Some Days You Just Have To Work Harder!!

What a month May has been!!
First, we are dealing with the
insurance company, Bless Them!!

February Damages were unbelievable!!

Clean up was just to much for me to
handle!  Let's just say pure crazy!!

We find out they no longer make our
PVC fencing material.  So let's just
wing it.  Then we loose the great
company that did our fence.  Looking
for another!!  We know that it will
not look as pretty but we want our
privacy!  We also know with the
way the trees are trimmed up more
damage will happen down the road.
Let's just say the trees are just 3/4
of what was there and need to be
removed!!   Over a year ago there
was a report that the evergreens are
dying!  Slow death as they destroy
properties around them.  No care!!

Then when we removed the tarp on
the greenhouse we find that the huge
limb that took out the front fence did
some damage.  The door rail and the
back frame took a huge blow.   I love
my greenhouse and it took years to find
one that we could afford and sturdy
enough to with stand the wind, snow
and tree limbs.  But whom cares??
We have had her since 2014 I believe
and she is still like new.  Some models
once the new ones come out the companies
don't honor their warranties.  I can't
afford to loose my stock in plants.

I have been looking at Greenhouses
again, they are so pricey now it's not
going to be easy to find one.  Most
will not take the wind or limbs!

I will add here that the company that
we got this from Sears don't carry
the greenhouse we have.   I went to
their website and they too have gone.
Just make a person want to cry at
this point!  So do we just leave it?

We work hard for what we have and
we do care for what we get!   We drive
older vehicles that still look great!
Don't have to have brand new like
some folks.  Our old house fits us
just perfect and she just got a nice
new look to match the gardens
we keep.    All we can do is
just shake our heads at the
disrespect some have for others.

We have narrowed it down to three
greenhouses, currently all three are out
of stock.  So hopefully next spring.

Just saying it's okay, just have to
work harder!
