Hope everyone is getting ready for the
heat wave!!   Ya know it's nice having
the windows open until someone starts
up their smokey BBQ

Cancer is close by!   Second hand smoke!!

If you are not watering your yard getting
ready for this heat and think recent rains
will help.  Think again!!

Sat. 93 degrees by 6:30 PM  high winds
and all the pine junk was blowing over
the yard.

Hybridizing Datura X Brugmansia

I was asked to explain this cross.   This is our
third attempt to cross a Dature X Brugmansia and
we know crossing variegated can produce albino
seedlings.  I have only had one that was grown
and produced a flower with a seedpod.  Those seeds
did germinate but sad to say none of them survived
the transplant.

There are some that state that this can not be done.
Wrong,  I have the paper work that was shared with
me of the 1940 work by a University back east that
did cross a Brugmansia X Datura and a Datura X
Brugmansia.  After reading the two studies I decided
why not try tissue culture plants?    So I set out to do
the cross with D. Missouri Marble X B. Shorty's
Variegated.   I had a lot of seeds from the 3 crosses
and share these seeds with folks cross the globe.
We called then Datmansia.

Last year I as gifted another D. Missouri Marble that
I again crossed with B. Shorty's and the above it what
the seeds produced.  We will see how they grow,

First Visitors Today

While out cleaning the north rain
barrels today I had a couple of elderly
ladies stop and I invited them to walk
in the garden.   It was a nice break!
There is so much to see this year!

Still cleaning rainbarrels and getting
the last of the plants out.  Now that
the finches have left the Brug House
I can get the eppies cleaned up and
hung.

We currently have B. Shorty's
Variegated in bloom so they got
to see it.  The Brugs are slow
to leaf out due to the weather
temps going up and down.

The spring Columbines have
been pretty much cut down as
I'm not saving seeds of most
of them.  Only the special ones
and the front bed where they are
located.

We are a working garden!!
