Fall Crocus Are Up

The first sign of Fall beside the squirrels
and the walnuts shells!  Don't ya love how
that stains the cement?

The Blog Hit 76,000

 this morning!  Thank you for
your support.  Life at the dead
end circle is not quite at all!

Glorious Rain!!

Got up this morning to rain,
which we need.  Finally a day
of rest and relaxing!  It's been
a long summer.  Still working
on calming the hamstring down.
I noticed while working yesterday
it started to act up again.  So back
to work a while then rest.  They
say it may take a year for it to
calm down.  But the way our
lives have been going it may
take longer.  I swear by Bio
Freeze!

Well that was short lived, I
worked to noon and then got
a call from my sister.  Then
this afternoon I was able to
slide into town and get my
flu and covid shots.  I was
advised to get them sooner
than later so before surgery
was okay to do now!  So glad
I asked the team!

Love to garden in the rain!

Closing Our Gardens Early

We usually close by mid October,
this year due to the heat and I just
learned I need more surgery.  So
the yard is starting to disappear
as I put it away for the rest of the
season.  It will be easier to take
care of if all is in a couple places.

So I have started to put the
Brugmansias away.  Last Friday
I finished their house and adding
a temp hoop house to the east
of the greenhouse to store plants
that can handle being outside
during the winter months.

As of this evening I'm almost
half way done putting the Brugs
in the yard away.  Then I'll do the
ones blooming on the driveway.
Most of them will go into the
tropical greenhouse.

3/2/2024

Filling up fast and less than a 2 dozen to go.
These were done first as they didn't have any
buds and again I cut them back more than
normal.

9/4/2024

Happy to say, I'm down to the one Brugmansia
that is in the huge cement pot out front left to
strip and put away!!

9/6/2024

Today I started stripping the Abutilon /
Flowering Maples and cutting back the
calla lilies and putting them away.

9/7/2024

After a few hours on the driveway and
listening to the tractor removing the
trunks from next door, I can say most
of the smaller Abutilons are now
cut back and in the greenhouse.  I am
also cutting back the Columbines and
moving them to the covered open space.
Thank goodness the recycle bins are
going to be emptied this week!  I bet
we can fill all 3 yard bins in less than
a day we are that far behind due to the
last tree removal.

9/8/2024

Today I'll need to readjust both greenhouses
to make for more room or it will be time
to start stacking plants this year.

I started stripping the leaves of the last
large Abutilon and got 6 done today besides
cutting back the north Hosta garden bed.
Only two Abutilons to go and was able
to find space for them.  There area a few
plants that will become house plants.

If you haven't see the photos of our yard
we do not have the typical yard most have
in Clark County!  As one attorney stated,
"You have created a paradise here!  Just
breath taking."  Another Attorney that has
visited was just speechless and surprised
at what we had created.

Our gardens are open by appointment
only.

See you next year, 2025!

Hot!!

I have been working on getting both
greenhouses up and running so I can
start putting plants away.    I have a
few delays but so far the Brugmansia
house is ready for the plants.

But, it's 120 degrees in there without
the fan mid day!   The tropical one
is up to 125 degree, as I just checking.

I even had to pull in the Abutilon off
the driveway into the cooler garage.
They were starting to fry.  So I'll
clean they up some and add some
more supports.  They are getting huge.

I finished the hoop house to the east
of the greenhouse this morning in time
to go to the front to find a lady and her
daughter admiring the flowers about
11ish this morning.  She loved the
Perennial Hibiscus.   They are in full
bloom now!   But the yard is full of
bees that time of the morning so I didn't
invite her up.  I explained I was cutting
back and the yard will disappear soon.
I asked her to come back next year, gave
her my card and she can see it all on the
blog if she wants a tour.

I can't get over all the bees this year! d

What a difference a day makes, 20 degrees
cooler with drizzle!

9/5/2024

Back up to 100 degrees today and the smog
is so back  and there is a haze in the air.

Now ready to fill them up!

Nice And Peaceful!!

While working on cleaning up the
Brugmansias on the driveway yesterday,
the Postal Carrier stopped to bring up
the box.  He asked how long we have
lived here?  I told him since 1988 and
he just grinned.  Your the lady that did
the haunted yard, right?  Low and behold
he went to school with our son!   He had
fond memories of the Haunted Yard we
did as a fund raiser for the class.  He asked
where our son was and we had a nice walk
down memory lane.   He asked if we still
do the Haunted yard and I told him, nope.
I decorate for the holiday but that is about
all.  I also got ahold of the couple that helped
us do this as we thought their son would like
to know.  What funds we collected with to
their class for games.

I need to get the Halloween decorations out!

Got a few lights up and decorated around the
front door with Bone's Girlfriend.  I need to
get him out next but the big cement Pond is
still full.

I took some fun time while stripping
and cleaning up the Brugmansias to
put them away.  I added the spiders
and lights for the outside.  First the
green what has been up for a couple
days.  Then the purple down both
side of the front.  So we have green
and purple up under the gutters.
With red around the door and down
the sidewalk.

I have Mr. Bones to get
out yet for his normal spot in the
huge cement pot out front.

Last year I had a little kid that was
afraid of Mr. Bones.  So I'm thinking
of turning him into a ghost, we will
see.

Today was the day that the cement pot needed
to be cleaned out.
