Time to go Under Ground!!
Sad to say this am I walked away from yet another garden site. I was upset to find some of my work in their
registry and I had not put it there. My research is just that and after seeing what I read I have asked that my
B. Sang. 'Karma' be removed from the registry, due to I was gifted seeds from a friend that was in Mexico and they thought I would love this plant. After being told some of my Brugmansia have questionable history, I about fainted. I have been told if you purchase a plant that you can ID it, you can give it a working name but it had to include the place you purchased it from. They gave up the rights to the plant when you paid for it and if it had no name then it was okay to give it a working name. So many times folks will just put a name on it to sell. My early purchase of B. Jutner Orange was in reality B. Charles Grimaldi and later found out that, that name came from Europe due to a nursery couldn't sell it so they just changed the name. Hence my B. Shorty's Variegated as I felt it needed more than just the name of the place purchased and to me it's more than just a NOID!! So should I use it to hybridize? To some no as it has no quality at all. Wow, then all one has to do is look at a registry and see all the NOID crosses that were allowed to be registered? At least I know the history of my Brugmansias. Which now brings me to this point. If someone does a tissue culture of a plant someone thinks is worth creating do they get to register it with a name? See how much this is confusing?
I have nothing to hide here and if my Hort/MG friends have led me down a path that is wrong, sorry but I would listen to them first!!

Beading Projects
One of the projects that I started this winter was some beading and thought I'd teach myself some
French beading. I started out on spiders and worked on some roses.

I noticed that folks were checking out this post and
saw that the photos were from an old site I used to
use. I added photos of what I has left from this project.

Ludger's Aurea Seeds Research Project
bedroom under lights due to it was to cold to move them to the greenhouse. On the first of February I was able to get them to the greenhouse and place them on the heat bed, noting they were starting to break ground. I'm just so excited to get these seeds!
Bottle #1 la X Yellow, 10 seeds, hard to peel -thick cork
Bottle #2 Schlossburg X Pink Aurea, 10 seeds, soft cork and easy to peel, 2 found empty
Bottle #3 deep red sang. hybrid X SV, 64 seeds, very slimy and was not able to peel due to the small nature in size and couldn't grip.
Bottle #4 la X 2, 10 seeds, hard cork with one tiny seed out of the 10
Bottle # 5 Yellow X 2, 2 seeds, soft slimy cork but easy to peel.
Bottle # 6 2 X Yellow, 3 seeds, easy to peel.
Bottle # 7 Yellow X pla, 10 seeds, these were the greatest to peel, seeds were starting to open.
Bottle # 8 2 X la, 20 seeds, largest of the seeds received and easy to peel.
I will try to take photos on a weekly bases as these grow in the greenhouse if weather permits. Now for the photos and allowing them to grow!! We have also put all photos at our PhotoBucket site under Ludger project:

Just watchin' them grow!! |
March 13, 2013 outside after the roof is off, noticing some slowing in growth.
March 23, 2013 experiencing much cooler weather.
March 31, 2013......still much colder than normal.
April 16, 3013, frost a couple times and I'm getting worried that they maybe getting to cold due to the color some of them are turning. We are to hit 70s by this weekend so hopefully the cold is past us. I need one more set of leaves before moving them to the bottles. I have sent off a email to the hybridzer letting him know I have left the garden site where these were to be tested, so it's his call if I cull or continue this project this year.
I have been working hard on bumping all those seedlings up that now have their second set of leaves. I now have room in the older greenhouse for them so they aren't getting to much sun as they were in the Brug House with the roof plastic removed. They seem happier in there now and will be moving them back when I can get some of the eppies moved upward to cut the sun.
May 1, 2013 before the move and being bumped up.
As you can see I didn't give them much room to sprout in and it really made for a better plant, when trans planting most had roots our of the bottom.
A happy seedling!!
First ones done!! Cups were labeled and these will rest a week before the first fertilizer will be given.
Some really happy seedlings!! Loving all the light and some added warmth. I also have some other seedlings that needed to be bumped up so these aren't all Ludger's Aurea Project.
Still have some that need to grow more and seeds are still sprouting.
5/8/2013, today the ones in the cups got their first feeding of Kelp water. : )
5/16/2013Just watchin' them grow!!
Seedlings are still popping up!! Front are small cuttings of a Sanguinea done this week.

June 19 ~ Time to Bump Up To Tree Sleeves
4 of the Brugmansia Sanguineas were ready to be bumped up into tree sleeves today! Here are some updated photos so that you can see how it's going.

Recently I was asked if I would post what we do when we take tip cuttings so that folks can see why it takes
When they reach a certain size they will get their own pot and these are about 11 months old.
so long to get a plant from us. These are B. Sanguinea 'Karma' cuttings and we take the very tip. As you can see there is also larger ones, Sanguinea are hard to root and we don't like them to get to large.
When they reach a certain size they will get their own pot and these are about 11 months old.
This one will go out into the garden next season as in a tree sleeve so that it can be sunk into a one gallon pot and that can be sunk into the ground.
We are not selling any this year due to filling commitments and loosing a few plants due to the hail storms we had early in the season, we had to cut them back.

At our garage sale I purchased from my friend some awesome pots and plant stand which I repainted. I then decided I needed to find some special plants for these. Abutilon/Fowering Maple was what I went with. A. 'Challo' is the orange colored and 'VooDoo' which is a deep read and hasn't flowered yet. This brings our collection of these up to 4. Our other plants which are a red and 'Bengal Tiger' are old enough last fall to attempt to get cuttings from. So far so good!!
