Closing The Gardens!!

We have decided due to the neighbor's
fire pit burning for a solid week, high
winds and temps and now the smoke
from the wildfires it's time to close
for the year.  We are busy cleaning
up and getting things ready to go
into the greenhouses.

Yesterday I pulled the Brugmansia from
the yard and stripped them, getting them
 ready to go inside.

Many were in bud so we are going to
allow them to  flower and do their thing.

Brugmansia, Datura and other solanaceae
members do not do smoke and a tobacco
virus can pop up so these will be the first
to take care of and put them away where
it's safe.

Get your tomatoes picked and put them
inside where the smoke doesn't get to them.
They too are in the solanaceae family.
You can put them on newspaper and they
will wrippen over time.

We will be stripping the leaves of anything
that feels gritty.   All one can do is spray
water over the plant and hope for the best
on some plants.  We are watching many
leaves turn yellow.  Smoke isn't healthy
for people or plants.

We currently have been working on cutting
back the backyard, first goes the hostas and
vacing up their area.  I can now see why they
did so poorly this year, all the fir junk inside
them.   Next will be the cutting back of the
all the rest of the plants.
