Monday our temps cool
down so I decided it was
time to cut the clematis
collection back so that
I could have some fall
blooms.
Tuesday was my day for
the huge ones! Thought
you would love the photos.

Holding area
Area where the Clematis grow.
Before the two huge ones were pulled.
After they were pulled. The tops were
inter twined and fun to move together.
You can see the one in the ground behind
the huge cement pot. I had to cut it free
from that clematis that is in the ground.
They all smelled of smoke and the l
eaves were gritty to the touch.
I will advise you if you don't know
your plants don't do this.
We had an elderly lady come to one
of our sales many moons ago and
while talking to her I found out one
can cut clematis back in July and she
said she got fall blooms! The secret
is fertilize! Once you cut back within
24 hours of doing this you need to
fertilize. We here try to fertilize one
hour after cutting. Then one week
later fertilize half strength. When we
start to see new growth for a week we
then will fertilize again as we know
they are on their way with life. We
do not hybridize these and allow the
bees and hummingbirds to play!
We find the fall blooms are nice but
not as good as the spring blooms!
The spring growth is in the
10 foot range with the fall growth
in the 8 foot.
Also at this time we move the
clematis around. Check out the
Clematis post to find out why.
The above photo of the two together
should give you the hint. I had
to buy new support stakes as the
ones we had weren't giving them
enough support. Do not use bamboo!

We are starting to see the Clematis
regrow so we will have fall blooms.

All are showing signs of growth
so I spent this evening putting
them back into the yard. Mother
Nature was so kind to give them
a drink over night!
Here is the first one to be cut back. I moved
her to a bigger space so she can really span out.
Becoming our favorites!
The Clematis are coming back and we
still have a couple months of grow time.

With the heat I have noticed
that they are turning a deeper
Purple.
