Fireworks and Burning Ban

To the sweet neighbor that set off fireworks
after 1AM in the Felida area.....Stupidity is
showing!!

There was a lot of stupidity in Felida on the
4th......The county needs to enforce the law!

More fireworks blow up!

Sugar Ants

Again we had a young man show
up at our door saying he was treating
so and so neighbors' for sugar ants!

I hate to say this but you will be dealing
with these as long as your neighbors keep
their yards as they do and don't under
stand that is the key to the problems!

They love wet wood chips that are mulched
from trees.  If you have an unkept lawn
is another issue as they love these areas.

I also bet that you don't treat your yard
for ants either, so what can one say.  You
want to go natural ...... no you are just
lazy!

Don't send them our way as we treat
out yard regularly and know just what
your neglect can cause when they get
into the electrical!!  Your cheapness
can cause issues that your neighbors
have to deal with!!

So if you have dead pine stuff laying
around you will have sugar ants.
Clean up your yards and treat your
property.

Glad to know you have an issue, I
will just treat the yard again to keep
them out of ours.

My husband said I was to nice to the
kid,  but he just pissed me off and I
will say it again.  There is a reason
there are signs at the curb.   The next
time I won't be so nice!!  Like I told the
kid, you are talking to the wrong folks
when you should be talking to my
neighbors whom if you look you can
see they don't care.  Who has the wood
chips??

Ya can't fix their stupidity!!   Furthermore,
why would one want to help pay for you to
rid your property of sugar ants when we
don't have them on our property?    Treat
your yard, but warning they will be back
due to your not cleaning up!

I know my neighbors hate to see me clean up!!
It's their trees we deal with!!

The Cleanup!!

I spent my morning cleaning up
from the wind. I took 5 1/2 pickle
buckets of fir/pine/evergreen
needles that came down.  I started
at 8:45 this am and ended a quarter
after noon.  First cleaned the circle
out as it was covered with needles.
Then mowed as that would be the
best way to get what is in the yard.
Some places I have to go over it
twice to get it all picked up.  I picked
up a half bucket of leaves prior to
starting the clean up. Then I had
to vac up the north beds which
added up to 4 bucket full.
Then I had to vac by the shed
and in the gravel, which is Sable's
area which added up to a bucket
and a half.  After that I had to water
the area as a lot of the plants were
totally covered and laying flat.  It is
just so nice to have my yard back!!

Closing The Gardens

Due to the heat!

Last night we watch it rain fir
and pine needles due to the heat
and no watering of trees.   So
I will be cleaning up the mess.
Check out The Cleanup post.

Another reason to close is we
are awaiting for the new cable
line to be buried.

This is also the time of year to
cut back plants that can bloom
later in the fall.  I am currently
cutting back the Clematis.

Please make an appt. as it's
a busy time of year.

B. Shorty's Variegated

Is loving the heat!!  Look how large
her leaves are getting.

But some of the others were droopy
when I went out but a little water
brought them back to life.

Today will be the real test and setting the
sprinklers out for easy cool down watering.
So glad I move some plants to the greenhouse
where they have some shade.

2021 Clematis

I am just impressed with the growth
this year on the Clematis.  With this
strange weather it's been hard to keep
up on them.  Impressive!!

As you can see we removed the
PVC arbor when I painted the
house and then decided not to
return it this year.
Will add more later.

Those Darn Rabbits!!

Some of you think they are cute and harmless,
well think again!!

They can damage a yard in a heart beat and
multiply  like crazy!!   We have done our
best at digging up their nests and filling
in the holes.  Even taken smaller rabbits
out of the area when we capture them.
What are you doing to help out??

Liquid fence is the next line of defense
besides adding more fencing especially
after they decided to eat the  cable line.

Thank you Comcast for your fast response!
It was so nice not having to hear the
phone ring or answer it!!  We don't
answer it as most folks don't leave
a message.  Now we await for the
new line to be buried in the yard.

Those rabbits will do damage!

The first set of locators have been
out and they say the no dig folks
will be next.  This will be interesting
to see them bury the line!   You all
know how we keep our yard.  I
have some stuff to move and get
ready for them.

Still eating the cable!!

Friday they came to bury the cable,
they were shocked that they had it so
easy.  Within a half hour they were done
and on their way.  Then I had to put the
walkway back and put out some grass
seed, then water.

7/31/2021

Not only do they love the cable line but I
found this on Friday morning!

Trying to get to the back yard someone tried
to chew the fence to the back!

We didn't have the fancy doubles.  Hope
you enjoy.  Sorry some are fuzzy, I just
don't do the heat anymore.

Spring Cut Back

This past week I started the spring cut
back, yep all the spring bloomers got
cut back to the ground to make way
for the summer blooms.  A couple
Clematis that got hit hard from the
heat also got cut back.  Besides once
the Irises were cut back it's was time
to treat them for the summer.  The only
ones you don't cut back are the
rebloomers.  Time to shape the azaleas
and wisterias.  Within the next week it
will be time to cut back the peonies if
you don't want them to go to seed.  If you
want seeds, then let them do their thing.

6/23/2021
Got the wisterias out front trimmed back
and found the one is starting to bloom
again!   Strange weather do have an effect
on plants!!  I also noted lots of seedpods,
thank you Bees!!

6/24/2021

With an empty yard bin it's time to cut
back the peonies, not saving seeds this
year.  Also with the up coming heat it's
best to cut them, which will allow them
to give back the to the roots.

Up coming July,  some of you know we
cut back the Clematis after the 4th of July
so that in the fall we have bloomers.   I know
that this weeks heat will do some of them
in so enjoy them now.

We have also brought out some of the
summer plants.

1972 Clark County's Photo

1972

I came across this photo on Clark County's GIS
site when I went in to look at their information
after getting our 2021 Assessment.

2004

This is the photo that the GIS has on record.

2021

It is nice to see all our hard work is paying off!!
Got to love those Ranch style homes!!  They
must be in high demand as our assessment
keeps rising.  More then the two stories houses.

First Brugmansia Bloom Of The Season.

Our second B. Shorty's Variegated that is
pushing 9 foot decided to bloom right after
our heat wave and the weather has cooled
some.

One can never have to many of these!

Here is B. Maya in her glory!

Her fragrance isn't as sweet as B.
Shorty's and she has to be in the
shade out front.   Her leaves aren't
as thick, nor is she hairy like B. Shorty's
but well worth growing.   Will have to
move her to a larger pot when she is
done blooming.  I also noted that this
one is more a golden color than Shorty's
Also her tendrils lay outward but Short's
curl upward.   Here is how they are on
the driveway, B. Maya really needs more
shade.

6/19/2021

Well yesterday was a good day to bump
up the pots and start cleaning them up
to appear like trees.

Here is the first group that got done.  The one in the
blue bucket is Cassie Curl and she supposed to be a
shorter one.....not here!!  She is also in bud in this heat.

An Apology

An apology to the couple that came for a
visit and I was on my way out for an
appointment.   Glad that they were
understanding and enjoyed what they
could see.
